Verizon in talks to give 4G spectrum to rural carriers

Verizon is working with some rural carriers to sell off portions of 4G wireless spectrum which the rural carriers could then use to bring high bandwidth connectivity to underserved areas.  Verizon would then make the rest of their network available to those rural customers when they travel – and this would expand Verizon’s network across the country much faster then if they did it alone.  This is an interesting development in light of recent moves by the FCC to re-consider how Internet connectivity is regulated – regardless of the impetus behind Verizon’s move; it may pay off for underserved, rural communities.
